Daily themes might include:
Halloween Treasures & Treats — edible gift traditions, and a day the kitchen smells like October
Comfort Food for Chilly Nights — soup, a quick bread, and things worth coming home to
Will Travel for Food — experience global flavours
Family Favourites Playlist — dishes they get asked to make again and again
Whether they already enjoy cooking at home or are just beginning to plunge into the culinary arena, our friendly and experienced tutors are there to create a supportive environment. Our kitchen is a safe place for these young students to share, learn, discover, and play with new ideas and flavours.
Lunch and snacks are provided daily.
Frequently asked questions
- What age is the Halloween camp for?
-
Ages 11 to 14. The Halloween mid-term camp is one of our Growing Gourmets camps for teenagers only. We do not run classes for children under 11.
- Are there Halloween camps for teenagers in Dublin?
-
Yes. Dublin Cookery School runs a four-day cooking camp over the Halloween mid-term break for 11 to 14 year olds, in Blackrock, roughly 20 minutes from Dublin city centre. It runs from 10am to 2.30pm and costs €325.
- Does my child need any cooking experience?
-
No experience is necessary, it doesn't matter whether you've cooked before or not. Everyone is given lots of support as they work through a wonderful set of recipes throughout the week.
- What do they need to bring?
-
An apron, tea towel, pen, sensible shoes, and most importantly, some food containers.. Aprons can be bought in our shop if you need one.
There will be lots of delicious things for them to bring home for their families to taste, cookies, cakes or breads. We strongly advise you not to take cooked meat or fish off the premises: un-chilled and transported food carries a real risk of contamination, and we can't take responsibility for any food once it leaves our premises.
- Should they eat before they come?
-
No. We'll be giving small snacks throughout the day in addition to all the delicous food they'll be making and taking out of the oven. Lunch will be whatever they make on the day.
- What if they have a food allergy or dietary restriction?
-
That should be no problem at all but contact us before booking if your child has a severe nut, egg, dairy, seafood or wheat allergy, or coeliac disease. We'll swap out for alternatives where we can, but please bear in mind that our kitchen handles nut, flour, egg and dairy on a daily basis, and that the rest of the group follows the original menu. Your child must bring an Epi-pen if their allergy is life threatening.
- What if they can't make it?
-
Please give us a call as soon as you know. Our full terms are at dublincookeryschool.ie/terms.
- Where is the school, and what about drop-off and parking?
-
We're in Blackrock, roughly 20 minutes from Dublin city centre. Blackrock can be reached by DART (8-10 minute walk away) and many bus routes. See more details at dublincookeryschool.ie/your-visit.
Your course itinerary
| 09:45 AM – 10:00 AM | Welcome to Dublin Cookery School. There’s a lot on the agenda every day so everyone is encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to the course start-time in order for the whole group to jump into action together! |
| 10:00 AM – 02:00 PM | We generally start our classes in our modern, mirror-lined Demo Kitchen. The lead tutor will introduce our special plans for the day and then jump right in to the delicious tasks at hand. In our Growing Gourmet classes, we keep things active and alternate throughout the day between the Demo and Hands-On kitchens with plenty of tastings in between. In our practical sessions, we organize the students so that everyone works in pairs with specific tasks assigned to each person. Everyone will receive their own recipe packs for all the dishes we cover and accumulate quite the collection by the end of the week! |
| 02:00 – 02:30 PM | This is when we clean up and wrap up! On our last day of the week, the mood is quite festive and by this time, there will be many new friends made. Thank you so much for spending your week with us and we wish all our young gourmands many happy cooking adventures to come. |
